Internet Access in France, Portable and Personal

Whether for pleasure or necessity, having internet access during travel is important for many tourists. In addition to receiving and sending news to family back in the U.S., the internet helps throughout the trip: buying last-minute tickets, calling an Uber late at night, searching for a restaurant option in an unfamiliar neighborhood, finding the way back to the hotel, etc.

Because of this, many readers ask us how to leave Parisian airports already with internet access. We found a great solution for this 'problem'.

Travel Wifi has a portable device - a personal hotspot - also known as "PocketWifi" or "Mifi". With it, up to 8 people can have internet access anywhere in France (there are devices for those visiting multiple countries in Europe, click here to learn more) - even outdoors, walking in the street, or traveling by car - for as many days as you need.

You make a reservation on the Travel Wifi website before traveling and pick up the device (it comes inside a pouch accompanied by a manual, charger, and return envelope) at the tourist information desks in Charles de Gaulle Airport (Terminals 1, 2A, 2C, 2D, 2E, and 2F) and Orly Airport (South and West terminals).

The operation is super simple. You turn on the device, and the name of the Travel Wifi network and the password will appear on the screen (this information is also written on the screen and on the back of the device). On your phone/tablet/laptop, you choose this network, enter the password, and voilà, you're connected to the internet!

The device is small and fits in the pocket of a jacket or a small bag. The battery lasts about 9 hours. Ideally, leave it charging overnight and leave the hotel with it fully charged.

At the end of the rental period, before leaving France, you need to return the pouch to Travel Wifi. To do this, just put it in the already sealed envelope and then drop it in a mailbox.

The France Premium option is ideal mainly for families and groups of friends. It offers unlimited 4G connection for up to 8 devices (phones, tablets, laptops). The daily rate is $6.90. If you rent for more than 10 days, the rate drops to $4.90 per day from the 11th day onwards. You can choose the number of days that suits you.
