Pont des Arts without its locks
On June 1st, the City of Paris announced the permanent removal of locks from the Pont des Arts. Glass protections will be installed by the end of the year. Until then, Galerie Itinerrance has created a unique artistic intervention by installing 220 panels painted by French artists.
Artists Brusk, El Seed, Pantonio, and Jace showcase their works until October on this bridge, which has become a symbol of love.
The video and photos display the new look of the bridge.
The video starts with a quote from Vercors, the pseudonym of French writer Jean Bruller: "the Pont des Arts... this point of the world, from where we see at the same time the Institute, the Louvre, the Cité and the book docks, the Tuileries, and the Latin mountain up to the Panthéon, the Seine up to the Concorde."
In 1992, a plaque honoring Vercors and the Editions de Minuit was placed on the Pont des Arts. This plaque serves to remind everyone that during World War II, under this bridge, resistors exchanged forbidden books from the Nazi occupier.
