Best Things to Do:
Prohibited Items in France
paris-story.com Paris has an article about prohibited items in Brazil, that is, what you cannot buy in France and bring to Brazil. Read here.
Today's post is the other side of the coin.
France, like all European countries, has a list of prohibited items for the Schengen area. France, in particular, is extremely strict concerning counterfeit products.
In general, you cannot enter France with:
- products and items related to pedophilia;
- products containing dangerous substances like lead or nickel salts;
- baby bottles containing bisphenol A;
- narcotics and psychotropic substances (these products will be permitted if you have a prescription or import authorization for medications);
- prohibited animals and plants. The list is extensive. The most common include:
.. orchids, butterflies, reptiles, birds, turtles, corals, shells
.. unidentified cats and dogs that are not vaccinated against rabies;
.. attack dogs;
.. furs from cats and dogs or any products containing these furs;
.. plants, seeds, skins, and pollen that might carry harmful organisms for flora;
.. decorative items and souvenirs made from animal skin, ivory, coral, turtle shells, feathers;
.. objects made from endangered plant species, such as sculptures, musical instruments, bags;
Each country has its own legislation to protect animal and plant species. When purchasing souvenirs made from these species, check the legislation of the country of origin and the destination country. In case of violation of the laws, travelers risk fines, legal action in the visited country, and the confiscation of the item or species.
As for counterfeit products, read this article here that describes the dangers involved. It's worth mentioning again: entering France with or even possessing these products is a crime that can lead to fines and imprisonment. Don't forget that this issue covers various areas: toys, textiles, medications, household appliances, cigarettes, perfumes, digital products, software...
France and Brazil recently signed an action plan against counterfeiting. The agreement was signed by the National Council for Combatting Piracy and Delinquencies against Intellectual Property and the National Anti-Counterfeiting Committee.
When packing your suitcase, if you have doubts, it's best to consult the website Service Publique.fr where everything is explained in detail.
Note: Since 1975, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, known as the Washington Convention and referred to by the English acronym CITES, governs the crossing of borders for 35,000 species of live or dead animals and plants, as well as their derived products.
