Tips for enjoying sales in Paris
During the sale period in Paris (soldes, in French), stores make several price adjustments. Therefore, you need to pay attention as new items are added to the sale with each new price adjustment, and prices are gradually reduced.
Personal stylist Dione Ochippinti shares some tips on how to ensure great purchases during the sale.
Dione, what are your tips for Brazilians to make great purchases during the sale?
If possible, go to the store on the first day of soldes. It's good to pay attention and plan for this first day (or the first days), as you can find a wide variety of items and sizes at reduced prices. With each new progressive price change, the earlier you go, the better.
Additionally, it's good to keep an eye on private sales offered by brands. Usually, stores reserve one or several days to open exclusively for their best customers with super attractive discounts of up to 85%. Just be subscribed to the brand's mailing list to be invited or sign up through websites that announce these sales such as My Little Paris, vente-privee.com, etc.
Personal Shopper companies also tend to post about private sales on their social media, I often post on my personal Instagram - @dione_occhipinti - and anyone interested can email me to participate.
Wear clothes and shoes that can be easily taken off in the fitting room.
Do luxury brands also have sales?
It's important to pay attention because luxury brands usually have a section in the back of the store that is on sale, but you won't see any advertisements in the store window.
Go in and ask if there is a discount section to make sure. Stores like Christian Louboutin do not advertise the discount but you can find products inside the store with a 50% reduction.
What is worth buying during the sale?
My shopping tip during sales is to look for what you would buy even if it weren't on sale. Buying just because the price is good or lower, just to say you bought something, isn't worth it. You'll probably regret it later.
Remember that items on sale usually cannot be returned or exchanged. Look for timeless pieces that won't go out of style, made of good quality fabrics and good finishes.
Something worth it are party dresses from brands like Italian Alberta Ferretti. They are beautiful, of great quality, and timeless. Moreover, their equivalent in Brazil is much more expensive.
The accessible luxury found in department stores (Galeries Lafayette, Le Bon Marché, and Printemps) is also well worth it for jeans, shirts, shoes, and other accessories.
And the clearance outlets of accessible luxury brands like Maje (6 rue du Cherche-Midi) and Zadig & Voltaire (22 rue du Bourg-Tibourg) become even cheaper.
