The rooftop bar Perchoir opens at Gare de l'Est

Perchoir was the first rooftop bar that emerged in Paris, following the laid-back and summer vibe of its New York cousins. Established in 2013 on the top floor of a generic building in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, its success was immediate and the lines were inevitable.

A year later, another Perchoir, this time temporary, opened in Le Marais, on top of the BHV department store (read here). Similar success followed since, after all, we are in Le Marais and have a direct view of the Hôtel de Ville (the beautiful building housing the Paris City Hall).

For summer 2016, the Perchoir team chose an even more unusual location. Starting today, and until October 15, a new branch of the bar will operate on the terrace above the main entrance of Gare de l'Est.

As we mentioned in the article about the La Fidelité restaurant (read here), the Gare de l'Est area has been attracting new young residents and entrepreneurs, and Perchoir is another example of this. In line with this trend, SNCF (the state-owned company that manages the French railway system) is seeking to revitalize its stations, aiming to transform them into not just transit points but also leisure spaces (consider the events at Gare du Nord, the shopping center at Gare Saint Lazare, etc.).

Conceptually, the bar follows the line of its older siblings: beach atmosphere with raw wooden furniture, plenty of cushions and plants, drinks, light and quick snacks, and a DJ enlivening the environment.

The venue can accommodate 300 people, but to avoid lines, it's recommended to arrive shortly before opening at 6:00 PM (on weekdays) and 4:00 PM (on weekends).
