Cheap food in Paris: 10 dishes under 10 euros

Oh, là, là... French cuisine offers us a number of culinary delights: croissant, baguette, crêpe, eclair, galette, ratatouille - we could continue the list endlessly at this point. Especially in the French capital, however, there are many tourist traps lurking, which demand a lot of money for the delicious cuisine.

But that doesn't have to be the case! We reveal ten Parisian restaurants and cafés where you'll pay no more than a tenner to be full and happy:

Sacha Finkelsztajn

Traditional dishes of Jewish origin, cheesecakes, strudels, sandwiches with caraway seeds: variety is the basic principle of Sacha Finkelsztain's "boutique jaune" (translated: the yellow shop).

The success story of his pâtisserie and boulangerie begins in the 1930s with his grandparents, who set off from Poland to start a new life in France. Since 1985, their grandson Sacha has been bringing his Central and Eastern European roots to Parisians in simple but incredibly delicious pastries and cakes (around 4 euros each).

Sacha Finkelsztajn | Address: 27 rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris | Opening hours: Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday

Burger & Fries

Delicious American-style burgers and fries made from fresh ingredients in front of your eyes - that's what Burger & Fries promises. And the best thing is: even the most expensive menu (double cheeseburger with fries and drink) costs just 9.90 euros. Located between the Bonne Nouvelle and Strasbourg - Saint-Denis metro stations.

Address: 1 boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle, 75002 Paris | Opening hours: Sunday to Wednesday from 11am to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 2am, closed Thursday.

ChezAline

Down-to-earth and a real favourite in France: This is "jambon beurre", translated as "ham, butter". What is meant is a baguette topped with these very ingredients. ChezAline in the 11th arrondissement serves the dish with fine "Prince de Paris" ham - and only charges between 5 and 8 euros for it, depending on how generously you want your baguette topped. Vegetarians will find what they are looking for in the salad selection.

Address: 85 rue de la Roquette, 75011 Paris | Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday

Maison Castro

Sandwiches with Catalonian olive oil, topped in different ways (between 5 and 6 euros), a large portion of pasta, made to a different recipe each week from seasonal ingredients (6 euros), organic lemonade (2.20 euros) and beer (2.90 euros): The cuisine at Maison Castro is uncomplicated and unspeakably delicious. You'll find four branches in Paris.

Address: 9 rue Cadet, 75009 Paris; 47 rue des Moines, 75017 Paris; 15B rue Alexandre Parodi, 75010 Paris; 114 rue de Belleville, 75020 Paris | Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm (Saturdays all day on rue Alexandre Parodi), closed on Sundays

Pancake Sisters

No crêpes in France for a change - but pancakes! At the Pancake Sister s you can get them with savoury sandwiches (from 7 euros) or sweet ones (from 2.50 euros per piece). If you can't get enough of the delicacies (and speak French), you can also buy a cookbook with the popular recipes here.

Address: 3 rue Lucien Sampaix, 75010 Paris and 8 rue Popincourt, 75011 Paris | Opening hours: Wednesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday

Pizza Popolare

Fancy a pizza? At Pizza Popolare it will be satisfied! The menu changes monthly and most of what's on it is admittedly not necessarily cheap. Except that the homemade pizzas Marinara (tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil) and Margherita (mozzarella, tomatoes, basil) will only set you back 4 euros and 5 euros respectively. Add to that a litre of water for 4 euros for two, and the inexpensive menu is perfect!

Address: 111 rue Réaumur, 75002 Paris | Opening hours: Monday to Wednesday from 11.45am to 2.15pm and from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, Thursday and Friday evenings a quarter of an hour longer, Saturday from 12pm to 3.15pm and from 6.30pm to 10.45pm, Sunday from 12pm to 3.15pm and from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Au P'tit Grec

Near the Parc de Bercy on the banks of the Seine, Au P'tit Grec is the eldorado for all crêpe and galette lovers. The sweet version (crêpes, between 1.50 euros and 4.50 euros) comes temptingly with butter and sugar, jam, stewed apple, Nutella, banana or whatever your sweet tooth desires. The savoury version (galettes, between 3 and 6 euros) is topped with ingredients such as grilled aubergine, Italian ham, potatoes and cheese.

Address: 68 rue Mouffetard, 75005 Paris | Opening hours: Daily from 11 a.m. to 0.30 a.m.

French Waffle

Galettes and crêpes are also available at French Waffle. But above all, you'll find - as the name suggests - excellent waffles.

Let the selection of toppings melt in your mouth: Spekulatius cream, fresh strawberries, Oreo, Nutella and cream or chocolate with a scoop of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream with cookie pieces and cream. Prices for the waffles range from 4 euros to 6.80 euros. Not exactly cheap, of course - but you're guaranteed to be full afterwards!

Address: 197 Rue de Vaugirard, 75015 Paris | Opening hours: Monday and Tuesday from 11.30am to 3pm, Wednesday until 9.30pm, Thursday and Friday until 9.30pm, Saturday until 10pm, closed on Sunday.

De ClercQ - Les Rois de la Frite

You'll find real Belgian fries in France at the three branches of De Clercq, the "kings of fries". The small portion costs 3 euros, the medium 4 euros and the huge portion 5 euros. All in all, a cheap but no less delicious snack. You can also get burgers here (4.50 to 6.50 euros). Or you can go to Burger & Fries.
