There are restaurants with a view offering special dinners, clubs perfect for after-dinner drinks, but if you want, you can also just have a toast with friends on the street or in some bar. A pleasant alternative is to spend New Year's Eve attending a cabaret show.

New Year's Eve in Paris what to do

If you want to celebrate in the streets, you should know that the main event is on the Champs Elysées where the party in anticipation of midnight starts as early as 9pm. In addition to music and shows, the dancing lights of the Eiffel Tower and the fireworks display will welcome in the New Year.

The Champs Elysées is closed to traffic as early as 9.00 p.m., so it is best to get there in the late afternoon, dinner time at the latest, to avoid the crowds.

Don't miss the show around the Arc de Triomphe, where from 11pm to 1am there will be a light and video show. Alternatively, you can head to Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre where the street celebrations are more intimate and cosy. A nice place to wait for midnight and then move on to the various clubs and cabarets in the neighbourhood and nearby Pigalle.

From here you can choose a Belle Epoque-style New Year's Eve by opting for a classic Moulin Rouge. A party with dinner followed by cabaret costs 650 Euro per person. If you have the patience to wait and enjoy the Moulin Rouge the following night, you can spend 90 Euro excluding dinner.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for an alternative proposal, you can choose to attend a show in one of Paris' legendary cabarets.

Prices do not vary much from the famous Moulin Rouge. The Lido is very expensive. The Foliès Bergères, which is cheaper, not least because it does not seem to include dinner, is the other historic venue in Paris, three centuries old, and offers Sherazade and the tales of One Thousand and One Nights for the evening of the 31st.

Another quiet and typically Parisian way to spend New Year's Eve is offered by the famous and romantic Bateaux Mouches that sail the Seine and offer not only a boat ride but also music and delicious menus on board. The Bateaux Mouches Company has promenade (promenade) and restaurant boats.

The Company Bateaux Pariens offers promenade cruises (from 12 Euro) and dinner cruises (from 65 Euro). Then there are the Company Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf and the Marina de Bercy (around 250 Euro for dinner). Bateaux mouches Gabarre around 350 Euros and stays operational an hour longer than the others (until 3am).

The cheapest dinner is offered by the Brasserie. Prices range from 140 Euro upwards. Bœuf sur le Toit, Brasserie Julien, Brasserie Flo (7 Cour Petites Ecuries) and the affordable Brasserie Mollard since 1867 (115 Rue Saint-Lazare).

Let's move on to the clubs. In the St Germain area, most are free and the option of going from one venue to another in the same area is not bad at all. The important thing is not to move around and not to try to take the metro or other means of transport. They operate and are free from the afternoon of the 31st to the morning of the 1st of January, but after 11pm they are incredibly crowded.

Otherwise, the Noveau Casino awaits lovers of electronic music with overtones of psychedelic and rock.

Nirvana is the place to be for live music in a scenic, libertine setting. Les Bains if you don't mind the selection at the entrance, frequented by the French jet set and beyond, and Abracadabar for those who prefer a creative and alternative ambience, experimentation and originality.
