City breaks in Europe Ten tips for the perfect summer trip to Paris
France's capital is definitely worth a trip in summer - if only for the sunsets on the Seine.
Always just beaches and mountains? Paris is also a great place to live casually in summer. Instagrammer VuThéara Kham shows us the relaxed corners of his city.
The Bar Ourcq
TheBar Ourcq on the canal of the same name consists mainly of a very large terrace directly on the water. Beer starts at 2.50 euros, tapas at 1.50 euros - what more do you need for a successful summer? From 5 p.m. onwards, DJs play relaxed electro music. Magnifique!
Hôtel Particulier de Montmartre
A tranquil oasis, hidden behind tall trees and dense bushes in the middle of the urban jungle of Montmartre. The hotel is surrounded by a plush cosiness that manages to make time stand still for a moment. The hustle and bustle is left at the door. In summer, take a seat in the idyllic garden with a Long Island Ice Tea.
Bar Le Perchoir Marais
Five phrases you hear every evening on the roof terrace of the "Perchoir Marais": 1. "Wow, look at the Eiffel Tower! 2. "Wow! Look to the left, the Seine!" "Wow! Look over there on the right, the Hotel de Ville." 4. "Wow! Look, here come our cocktails: for me the Moscow Mule, for you the Raspberry Mojito." 5. "Santé!"
Restaurant Le Bouillon Pigalle
In France, we understand a bouillon to be a down-to-earth eatery with traditional cuisine without much chichi. Perhaps the best-known restaurant of this kind is the "Bouillon Chartier" on Rue du Faubourg in Pigalle. In a bustling ambience, waiters serve onion soup, boeuf bourguignon, steak tartare or bouillabaisse with an overview and quick-wittedness - all at fair prices.
Berthillon Glacier
Classic meets classic - a not-so-old sports car parked in front of the "Café de Flore" in Saint-Germain-des-Près.
What would a summer be without ice cream? For me, the best ice cream café in town isBerthillon Glacieron Île Saint-Louis - and I've tried almost all of them. After all, I've been living in Paris for a few summers. Definitely try the Mandarin, ultra-tasty, my favourite of the season! Or Salted Butter Caramel! And the pistachio ice cream is a city classic.
Museum d'Orsay
When the sun is too hot on the city streets, you can take refuge in a well-tempered museum. The most beautiful option: the Musée d'Orsay on the south bank of the Seine. The former railway station from the beginning of the 20th century, the Gare d'Orsay, has been lavishly restored. More than 4,000 exhibits await you on 6,000 square metres, for example by van Gogh, Renoir, Manet and Rodin.
Ground Control
An outdoor playground for big kids, just a ball's throw from Gare de Lyon. Easy living under a blue sky: on a former storage area for mail trains, you can hang out in old bathtubs, play table tennis, or get some fine fast food from a former city bus that has been converted into a mega-food truck. Fragrant flowerbeds have also been laid out in wooden crates. Olive trees create a southern French flair at Ground Control .
The water features on the Place de la République provide refreshment - not only for children.
Paris Plages
Every summer, the banks of the Seine are transformed into small promenades. Parasols are stretched out, deckchairs are set up between palm trees and cocktails are mixed with umbrellas. Almost everything you like about summer can be found in the two beach bars "Parc Rives de Seine" and "La Villette Canal Basin".
Parc des Buttes-Chaumont
This park in the north-east of the city is one of the largest and oldest of its kind. It is a peaceful place with small streams gently lapping and chirping birds flying among exotic trees. In the heart of the park, you can picnic by the lake.
Piscine Molitor
The "Molitor" in the west of the city is one of the most famous and popular hotels in Paris, if only because of its incredible roof terrace. It is also home to two of the most beautiful swimming pools and one of the largest spas far and wide. There's no more stylish way to refresh yourself in Paris in summer.
Stubborn they are supposed to be and fashion-conscious, at least the capitals! For breakfast they only take a croissant - and life as it comes. The French enjoy a good reputation, and their country is also popular with holidaymakers. France combines European diversity in a very small area, offers lonely valleys and peaks, but also beach culture and a lot of history. We reveal which places are particularly worth visiting.
